Become self-employed

Many artisans sell without any status. With HandiArtisan, you start selling right away, and we help you become self-employed, simply.

Why a status?

Who can do it?

  • Do you have Tunisian nationality? Yes
  • Do you live in Tunisia? Yes
  • Do you already have a trade licence (tax registration, « patente »)? No
  • Do you work in your own name (not as a company)? Yes

Industry, craft, trade or service activities from the official list. Some non-commercial activities or activities requiring approval are excluded.

How much does it cost?

200 TND a year in a municipal area · 100 TND elsewhere

or 0.5% of turnover

Sources disagree. We show both calculations until it is confirmed.

It replaces income tax, VAT and turnover taxes. Plus a share of the local business tax (TCL).

🎁 First year : First year without contribution, when the National Employment Fund covers the contributions.

Turnover ceiling : 75,000 TND a year.

Filing fee : 10 TND (according to one source).

Social cover (CNSS)

  • Craft trades: scheme of law 2002-32.
  • Other activities: self-employed scheme, first bracket.
  • A health-care card for each quarter paid.

How to do it?

📱 1. Activate Mobile ID

Mobile ID is your digital identity on your phone. It is activated with your mobile operator (in a shop, with your ID card). Never give your Mobile ID codes to anyone, not even HandiArtisan.

🌐 2. File your application yourself

  1. Open the official website. It is the State's site, not HandiArtisan.
  2. Choose to create your application and identify yourself with Mobile ID. You type your codes yourself, on your phone.
  3. Check your identity and enter the address where you work.
  4. Choose your activity (the one on your HandiArtisan sheet).
  5. Pay the filing fee if the site asks for it.
  6. Send the application and write down its number. Come back here and click “I have filed my application”.

HandiArtisan never files the application for you and never asks for your Mobile ID codes.

The card arrives in about 15 days.

You can get free help : ANETI « Espaces Entreprendre » · Employment offices · Tax collection offices · CNSS offices.

After the card

  • Declare your turnover every quarter and pay online.
  • Issue numbered invoices bearing the scheme's mention.
  • Stay under the annual turnover ceiling.
  • Removal from the scheme is possible after prolonged non-payment or non-declaration, or if the ceiling is exceeded.

Status and your social benefits

Can the status change your social benefits or allowance? We do not know yet: the question has been put to our lawyer. Ask your social affairs office before filing.

With HandiArtisan

  • You sell as soon as your shop opens, without any status.
  • Above 5,000 TND of sales over 12 months, the status becomes required. You then have 60 days to file your application.
  • The “My status” assistant in your artisan space explains everything, calculates your cost, prepares your sheet and guides you to the card.
  • Once the team has verified your card, your shop shows the “Self-employed” badge and your invoices bear the scheme's mention.
